THE CANADIAN GOLD MAPLE LEAF COIN YOU RECEIVE WILL HAVE A DATE OF OUR CHOICE AND WILL UNLIKELY MATCH THAT OF THE IMAGE.

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is the official bullion gold coin of Canada, and is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM). The brainchild of Walter Ott, it is one of the purest gold regular-issue coins in the world with a gold content of .9999 fineness (24 carats), with some special issues .99999 fine. More Canadian Gold Maple Leafs are sold every year worldwide than any other gold coin and the population of Gold Maple Leafs is only surpassed by the gold Krugerrand. Gold Maple Leafs are made from gold mined from mines located in Canada.

The coin was introduced in 1979. At the time the only bullion coin was the Krugerrand, which was not widely available because of the economic boycott of apartheid-era South Africa. Coins minted between 1979 have a gold purity of at least .999. In 1980-1982, both 999 pure coins and 9999 pure gold coins were minted and beginning in 1983 the RCM switched to exclusively minting 9999 gold coins. The 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is legal tender with a face value is $50 CAD (Canadian Dollars). The market value of the metal varies, depending on the spot price of gold as traded on both the NYMEX and other international commodity exchanges. Having a .9999 millesimal fineness (24 carats), in some cases .99999, the coin is among the purest official bullion coins on the planet. The millesimal fineness scale typically refers to the minimum guaranteed purity on a fraction of 1. i.e. a purity of .9999 would mean its minimum purity is .9999/1. The standard version has a weight of 1 troy ounce (31.103 grams). Other sizes and denominations include 1 gram, 1/25 oz. ($0.50), 1/20 oz. ($1), 1/10 oz. ($5), 1/4 oz. ($10), and 1/2 oz. ($20).

The purity and reputation of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin has made it the second most popular gold coin the the United States and by far the most popular coin in Canada and many other Asian countries which seem to prefer 9999 pure gold coins. The 1 oz Canadian coin's obverse and reverse display the profile of Elizabeth II and the Canadian Maple Leaf respectively. In 2014 a new micro engraved laser Maple Leaf with at 14 within it was introduced to reduce the risk of counterfeiting. In 2015, an additional security feature was introduced: radial lines emanating from the center of the gold coin that gives the reflecting light a unique and beautiful look.

On 3 May 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint unveiled a Gold Maple Leaf coin with a nominal face value of $1 million and a metal value of over $2 million at the then current spot gold price. It measures 19.68 inches diameter by 1.18 inches thick and has a mass of 221 lbs (100 kg), with a purity of 99.999%. The artist is Stanley Witten.

The 1 oz Canadian coin is IRA eligible. For those investors looking for a highly recognizable gold coin, beautifully designed, with the quality that the Royal Canadian Mint is renowned for, the 1 oz Maple Leaf Gold Coin is a excellent investment.
